Butterfly Collection William & Mary Wing Chair
SKU: OM105-WO
The wingback or easy chair was introduced toward the end of the seventeenth century and appears here in the classic form that was frequently modified in later versions. The high back is gently canted for greater comfort and is shaped into a flattened arch at the top. The deep winged panels at either side of the back were designed to help ward off drafts and give this chair its most familiar name. The padded arms are both horizontally and vertically scrolled. The seat flows gracefully into the sides without the need for a loose cushion. The chair rests in the front on cleft cabriole legs, with the upper portion shaped to suggest a ram's head while the lower half end in drake feet. The legs are connected by a pierced Cupid's-bow stretcher. The finish is walnut and the upholstery flocked to resemble red velvet. This design should be dated around 1700. The 1 July 1979 price list retailed the item for $18.00. Today, the hard to find item is selling for $108.00. The chair measures approximately 4x3x2.5", comes in its original box (slightly worn)and is covered in its originally plastic bag wrapping. Goebel Miniatures
